What will become of us? Where will we go when there is nowhere here left. Why did we slowly transition from taking only what we need, to taking everything and needing more? By 2040 there will be no ice on the North Pole, none. The "Winter Wonderland" of so many children's imaginations, Santa's workshop, all of that, will be gone. We are killing ourselves, we are killing our beautiful planet, and soon enough we'll be killing the Moon, Mars, and whatever other celestial bodies our technology will allow us to reach.

The largest, most dangerous population of parasitic organisms in this world has slowly shifted and without even fully realizing it, become us. We are the cancers that are destroying this world, reproducing at astronomical rates, devouring everything in our paths. I am sorry for the negative sounding tone of this post, but it is just so sad to me.

The world we all live in is ending. You might not believe me, you might think I'm crazy and offer me a little crate, a coat with holes, a beard, and a downtown area in which you want me to yell and rant...none of that matters, because the world is ending, and I have proof.

The proof is this, a baseball team in Illinois, the Gateway Grizzlies, have a new snack at the concession stands this summer; an exciting partnership with Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Ready for the apocalyptical (I don't think that's a word) part of this whole mess? The "snack" is actually their version of "Baseball's Best Burger." Directly from the press release, and I quote:

"The burger...consists of a thick and juicy burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon. The burger is then placed in between each side of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut."

Dear Lord. Don't worry all you calorie counting/fat avoiding/carb-weary friends out there, this little beast is expected to have the low low amount of 1,000 calories and 45 grams of fat. That's nothing! So, go ahead, enjoy "Baseball's Best Burger" but rest assured, this is just a sign of the end of the world...now where's my coat with holes?

Does Shampoo Expire?

This is for anyone out there...does shampoo expire? I just showered and used some good ol' Herbal Essences for my shampooing purposes when a thought dawned on me...in my jojobastic haste, I failed to realize that the 'poo I was using was actually the very same Costco-sized bottle that my Mom bought me when I moved to Missoula my sophomore year in college some 5 years ago.

My hair feels weird now, is it because of the shampoo that is well-beyond its prime? Does shampoo in fact expire, and if so, when? There were no rank odors, there were no signs of mold or even chunking as milk will do; it smelled sweet, it washed true. (Said like Narrator on "Wonder Years" or "Sandlot")

Lastly, and any and all females can feel free to field this question...why in God's Holy Name, do they put a little hard plastic BUTTON on the end of the string that ties onto the loofah. Yes, I use a loofah, yes, I am lame, but I can not for the life of me figure out why they would put a stupid button on there. Now, when I'm lathering, the little button acts like a renegade whip, slapping my back, stomach, and other random spots I dare not mention. I always forget to HOLD the button, so I suppose that is my fault, but nevertheless, a design error of drastic proportions. Thanks Bath & Body Works, Thanks A Lot.

Wow...maybe I should start looking for more high-tech career opportunities. Someone Put Some Clothes On Madonna, Please

Grammy's are on, Gorillaz are performing in one of the most ridiculously cool 3D animated/live performances I've ever seen. They look real but they aren't and it's weird. You know what bums me out though, when 2 seconds later Madonna walks out. Good Lord.

Can someone please stick some clothes on her? Please!? Great, you're in shape. Great, you work out still and occasionally get some sweat on your chic red Kabbalah bracelet, congratulations, now please put a robe over your leotard and leg warmers. Plus, where'd the fake Brit accent come from? You're from Bay City, Michigan not from Cornwall, drop the act. Just because you are married to a rockin' English director doesn't mean you all of a sudden have an accent...last I checked linguistics aren't sexually transmitted.

At any rate, I can deal with the accent, but the old body, as in shape as it may be, in a sparkly unitard is just too much; no one should have to see that.

UPDATE: Coldplay is NOT the "next U2" and they never will be. As much as Chris Martin runs around on stage, pointing to the heavens in grandiose fashions, he can never, and will never be Bono. His voice isn't as strong, his lyrics aren't as strong, he isn't backed by Larry, Adam and the Edge. Plus, last I checked, Coldplay isn't in the "saving the world" business either; yeah they performed at Live 8, but still, Bono raises billions of dollars for 3rd world debt...Chris Martin, on the other hand, just names his kids after fruit.

UPDATE #3: Kelly Clarkson can friggen sing man. I have decided, along with my girlfriend, that we are unashamed Kelly Clarkson fans. Believe it.

UPDATE #3.5: The above statement is true, with the exception of "Since U Been Gone," because that song is mind-numbing and reminds me too much of Stephen and L.C., and well, that's just more than I can handle. haha.

The Bottom Line

I just got done having a long conversation with my friend Dave about the state of things in the world today. Dave is employed at Apple, and during our conversation, I actually started thinking about Apple, and the whole stigma that surrounds them.

Here we go, sorry to all you Apple lovers, I really have nothing against the company or anything else, but I just want to set the record straight for how exactly I feel they are so amazingly, and blatantly blown out of proportion.

Bottom line is this, in my humble opinion, Apple is big business. For years and years, Apple rose to the position they are at today by putting themselves in the underdog corner of the boxing ring that is computer technology...Apple and their loyal followers were fighting the "good fight" against The Man, (cue scary Darth Vader music) being Microsoft. Quietly, however, something shifted, and Apple became just as "The Man-ish" as Microsoft. They are both companies, selling us expensive products. Apple is cool, yes, but the bottom line is they make pricey technology, Technology, that updates itself so fast that the kind folks at Apple roll out the red carpet for yet another Huge auditorium style meeting in which they convince all of us why we need the Newest version of the product we just bought 2 months before.

Now, charitable donations and contributions withholding, as I am not up-to-date on how much, or what Apple has donated, or to whom, but the only way Apple is improving the "quality of life" of the average person in this country, is by sticking another expensive, albeit well-designed hunk of metal and plastic into our pockets...further disconnecting people, from, well, people. Earbuds on white cords replace conversations and smiles.

You know the most promising thing I've seen in the computer technology realm in the past few years (with the exception of medical technology, which is both vital and interesting)...the $100 Laptop program developed over at MIT for kids in 3^rd world areas to have such important access to educational tools, news, and the huge sprawling World that surrounds them. We need MORE of this, all over, spreading like wildfire; the last thing we need is yet another iPod that is even smaller than the last, holding 10 million songs and playing videos on a screen the size of your thumbnail.

The Bottom Line is this: I wish more people would realize that Apple is nothing more than a company, that Microsoft is nothing more than a company, and the crap they produce for the average consumer is just that, expensive crap wrapped in a shiny, pretty package.

Phew. Done. Let the hate mail ensue.

Jamie Foxx Bugs Me

You know what, first it was the Rolling Stones, and now today, I had a grand epiphany that someone else in the celebrity realm really bugs the hell out of me; that person, is Jamie "Ray Charles Told Me That The Music Was There, I Just Had To Play" Foxx.

First he was in Ray, and I will agree, he did a fantastic job channeling Ray Charles; he looked like him, sounded like a professionally edited version of him, and even moved around like him, so on that note, kudos. That, however, is where it ends. I can't stand his singing on the beginning of "Gold-Digger", not that I can stand "Gold-Digger" anyways, but I still can't stand it. He gave the same trite answers to the same trite interview questions 1,000 times: He met Ray Charles, Ray Charles told him that the music was all there, right under his fingers, all he had to do was play; basically, he never stopped talking about himself.

Now he's a singer, and yes, now he has an album (Good Lord why?), and now he's going to think that he is a new rap-star/singer. Yikes. That means, more talking about himself, more emotional anecdotes about how his Mom, or Grandmom, or sister's uncle's boyfriend's parrot inspired him when he was 4 to be the singer he is today. Blah.

That's all I got, Jamie Foxx, you are a talented actor when you want to be, just please be quiet...or go make another blockbuster like Stealth.

OverRated

The Rolling Stones are the most overrated band in the history of rock music. Hands down, without equal, they are...the funny thing is, I'm not even sorry for saying so. If I upset a few people in the speaking of this truth, well then, that's the risk I'm just going to have to take.

I don't know if any of you watched, ha, but the Rolling Stones were the headliners for the Halftime Show during Super Bowl XL. I don't even know where to begin in my explanation of how terrible the last 10 minutes of my life were. Mick Jagger seizured around the stage like a Gumby Doll with Tourette's Syndrome, breathlessly trying to say (notice how I didn't say Sing) the words to songs that first came out during Super Bowl II.

Listen ABC, if I wanted to go to a Rolling Stones concert I would fly to Florida, find a nursing home, and settle in with a case of Ensure for what would probably be a false teeth chattering good time. You know what though, I didn't want to go to a Rolling Stones concert, I wanted to watch the Super Bowl, and even a wardrobe malfunctioned Janet Jackson performance would have been better. I felt like the minute Jagger & his fossilated crew got done performing, they all needed their walkers, O₂ masks, and a stiff cocktail of Metamucil and glucosamine.

Ok, done, I just had to let that out. In a word, Overrated. They always have been and they always will be. How did the wool get pulled over so many people eyes? How did geriatric karaoke get mistaken for talent? Perhaps I'll never know.

If you look at this just for a moment, you'll see the blue sky reflected in the water on the deck...if you look longer, the blue sky disappears and you realize it's turned into the diagonal shadows of the deck slats...those then turn into the reflection of those very same slats going straight up and down. Then there's the line of nails going the other direction, then there's the board lines on the floor of the deck going horizontally. Weird.

I just was watching Leno on The Tonight Show, and he had a great point...Thanksgiving, the holiday designed for "giving thanks" for all we have, all we love, trust, cherish and need, is followed directly by the biggest shopping day of the year.

Well, it's Thanksgiving again, so Happy Thanksgiving. I still find this holiday such a strange one for its historical roots. Holiday's celebrated with roots so very soaked in blood are interesting, but nevertheless, now is the time to be thankful.

So, here is an important, albeit short, list of what I am thankful for. I hope you all have an Amazing Thanksgiving time with your families/friends/loved ones. Thank YOU for sticking with my blog, even when I fail to update it regularly. Without further ado, Tyler Knott's Thankful Things:

My Family. You guys have always been there for me, through thick and thin, and Daddy-O, since you're stuck in Venezuela this year, we'll make up for your lack once you get home. Thanks guys for always trusting that things would work out for me.
Sarah Joelle. There's not enough room on this website to tell you how thankful I am for you. I don't know how it happened, or even why, but I'm so glad we wandered our way into each others lives. We've been together almost 16 months now, and I can't wait to see what the next 16 have in store for us. I Love You Sarah.
Health. At this current moment, I can honestly say, and I don't think I'm wrong, that every one close to me, every loved one or friend, is currently healthy and void of any bad diseases, conditions, or ailments. Even my friend Matt, who I haven't talked to for Far too long, is on the trail of recovery for his fight against cancer. Yay.
Life. Life, is a silly, unexplainable, confusing, frustrating, and intensely Perfect thing. Thank You Life, for constantly reminding me that I am alive, and just how amazing that fact really is.

There you go. 4 short, but awesome things I am thankful for. Everyone else should try, I think it's good to actually physically say/write/explain what you are thankful for this year, makes it all the more real. Have a great holiday!

Ok, I just watched MTV True Life, that series of documentaries that they run, you know the drill...True Life: I'm In Love, True Life: I'm A Drug Addict, whatever. Today's was quite possibly the most disturbing that I've ever seen, and I'm probably going to piss a few people off explaining why...True Life: I'm A Professional Gamer. HUH!?

The hour long show followed "professional" video game players. These people get paid to travel, and enter "professional" video game TOURNAMENTS. Hahaha. I don't even know what to say. Who needs college, who needs a job, just go play games. The funniest thing to me, was when people were saying they had a long week of "training" coming up; training, meaning sitting on a couch, playing a video game, drinking Red Bull, and that's it.

Now, sorry if I've offended any "professional gamers" out there, but the craziest thing to me, was that there is an entire league of young women's gamers, that play this war game where you run around killing people, shooting them, and slitting their throats. These girls were normal looking teenage girls, and I don't know, maybe it's my bias, but it blows my mind...I guess I always pictured the "pro's" being skinny, pale kids with little 17-year-old facial hair, arms that look like toothpicks, and thumbs that look like the head of a hammer. At least all the guys in the show didn't let me down, and looked exactly that way.

Was TV Ever Good?

Hey, remember when TV used to be good? Cause I don't, and now I'm wondering if it was ever good at all. The only shows I will admit to liking, and watching frequently all live on 4 channels: Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Animal Planet, and the History Channel. Sometimes, SOMETIMES other shows will leak in on other networks, but for the most part, I live on those 4.

Flipping around today, I noticed that every show, on every channel, has been played before. Re-runs of re-runs are re-running right now, and it is getting old. When it Isn't a re-run, on the weeknights, shows like Desperate Housewives are more popular than Britney Spears' baby photos, and I don't get why. Every episode someone else dies, murders, has an affair, marries, runs over, overdoses, commits a felony, or SOMETHING. What street is this happening on, in What parallel universe? In my neighborhood, it's a scandal if someone paints their house a weird color, or puts a fence up higher than the neighborhood code; not murders their sister's former husbands lover's gardener.

So I guess what I'm asking is, was TV ever good, or has it always been this bad and I'm just now noticing? I think I'm just going to start reading a lot, lot more than I already do, and turning the TV off a heck of a lot more.

Safeway Shouldn't Be BUSY

Man, since when is Safeway as busy as Los Angeles during rush hour?? Seriously, what I once thought was an affliction that only plagued the blue and yellow halls of Wal-Mart and Salvation Army on 50% Off Friday has now sneakily found its way into the once quiet and, dare I say, hallowed halls of my beloved Safeway.

Since when has Saturday at 3:15 been "rush hour" in a grocery store? Since when has the Express Line had a not so Express line of 50 people, each with way more 9 Items Only? Since when have OTHER people figured out MY secret of renting a movie with your groceries, thus enabling you to skip the checkout line and check out at the video desk?! AHHHH.

Safeway, despite your cool upgrades, your wood floors and organic food section; your new deli signs and your mood lighting above the wine bottles, you are failing me. The last two times I was there, I was denied peppered turkey because your employee was too lazy to walk to the back, and today, I was denied chicken breasts and jo-jo's because you were "OUT!" How can this be?

Get your stuff together Safeway, my patience is wearing thin and Albertsons is just a tiny tiny drive further. Plus, they rock the 10 for $10 at an attractive frequency. You have my allegiance for now, but stop testing me.

It's come to my attention recently, that I do not blog enough. True? Yes. Why? That is a different story. Why don't I post as much...hmm...well for starters, my life is boring lately. Very Very boring.

I've been house-sitting for the last little while and as such, it's been me and my dog Gertie holding down the fort. When I say it's just been the two of us, I literally mean JUST the two of us. I'm in Helena right now, I get up, I work, I work out, I work more, I play some music, I listen to some music, I work a bit more, then I sleep. Somewhere in there I also eat, and take Gertie for a long walk. Folks, that is ALL I do. Socially I am a hermit, and I'm not sure really why that is, but that is the way it is.

So, for those who keep with this site, Thank You, as I've said a million times before, I'll try to be better; I have a feeling this site will turn into a Tyler Rant Page, where I rant about various things, I see that in the near future. For those that rely on this site for their main source of distraction during tedious work days, I apologize, I will try harder to entertain you. Hope all of you are well, Happy Thanksgiving soon.

A.K. Gregson -- My Grandfather.

How do you summarize a life? How do you wrap up in sentences and paragraphs what could fill a thousand pages in a thousand books black with ink? I have no idea where to begin when talking about A.K. Never have I met a man like him, and never will I again. To say A.K. Gregson is one-of-a-kind is a drastic understatement, so I will just say this, he is my grandfather. My name is Tyler Knott Gregson and I am 24 years old; I got my “Knott” from A.K. and my son, or daughter if a son doesn’t come, will get the name from me. Passing down a name is the very least I could do for all he has done for me, for all I have learned from him, and for all the things he showed me without knowing it.

The memories I have of A.K. will never leave me: I will never forget shell hunting with him on Shell Island, learning how to find the good shells by the bubbles and holes in the sand; I will never forget watching my father’s baseball games with him and Meannie in so many different cities; I will never forget the days he would meet me with my dog Clancy at the corner of my elementary school, ready to walk me home and always with candy in his hands. I will never forget how much money, in how many different places A.K. has hidden; I will never forget his clues on how to find them. I, and I am sure the rest of our family will all agree with this one, will never forget how important it is to be on time; his emphasis on punctuality has been passed onto my dad…remember, with A.K. being ready at 6:30 meant being ready, in the car, and already driving at 6:19. I will never forget how he’d get so excited about what was for dinner; he wouldn’t eat, or want anyone else to eat after about noon, so dinner would not be spoiled. I’ll never forget the stories he told me about the war and life on the railroad; the way he could tell a story was magic, absolute magic. I will never forget his passion for the Grand Canyon. I will never forget his passion for sports: playing them in his youth, watching them as he aged. My dad and I always used to joke that A.K. would watch Checkers, Tiddly-Winks, or marbles if it was on ESPN…as long there was competition, and there’d be a winner, A.K. would watch.

I will miss A.K. more than I could possibly express, and more than I will possibly understand for a long, long time. A.K. is a man that makes all other men feel just a little bit inadequate when comparing themselves. He once told me that my initials, T.K. Gregson, stood for “Tough Kid,” and I have been trying all my life to live up to that. A.K. is tough, one of the toughest men I’ve known, but he was so perfectly balanced with a tenderness that everyone, everyone was instantly drawn to. Hamlet, the Gregson’s, the Grand Canyon, and anyone that ever met him, had to say one of the most difficult goodbye’s we’ve ever had to say.

Thank You A.K., for everything you’ve shown me. Thank You A.K, and thank you Meannie for having a son that any parent would be so proud to have; thank you for turning him into the father that every son needs, my father. A.K. I will never forget you, thank you for showing me the way a life should be led. I Love You A.K., now and always.

Fruit Loops: A Double-Edged Sword

Fruit Loops, I will admit, is a genius little cereal. Little loops in bright fluorescent colors that make kids think they're eating crayons; sugary little bites of frostedness on every single spoon. You know what though, Fruit Loops are a double-edged sword.

Now, if you are a person like me, who takes healthy sized bites on bigger sized spoons, (the big spoons, not the little dinky tea ones) then you know my pain. Here is where the problem presents itself. If you pour a large bowl, in which the milk brings the cereal level above the pre-existing level of the bowl itself, the problem I am about to describe intensifies proportionately with the aforementioned height above the bowl.

The problem: Fruit Loops, like almost no other cereal on the market, HURTS to eat. When I get done eating a bowl, it feels like at some point, I grabbed a spoonful of broken bottle glass and tiny pieces of sandpaper, like 80 grit. The roof of my mouth gets cut, chaffed, sliced and rubbed absolutely raw.

So, there you have it; Fruit Loops hurt. End of story. Will I stop eating them? Hell no, they look like little crayons.
